It is rare when a church calls a pastor back to serve as its shepherd a second time—especially after a 20-year hiatus! But God’s grace is amazing and the bond between a preacher and a people can be profound.
For twelve years Emil Thomas led Jerusalem Baptist Church of Palo Alto, California during an era of spiritual grown and architectural expansion. In 2014 he was called back to Jerusalem in a new era of expanding technology and changing demographics.
In the interim, he served two congregations for ten years each. At Zion Baptist Church he oversaw the development of over 50 new ministries in Washington, DC. At Destiny Church he oversaw the planting of a new congregation in Waldorf, Maryland. Along the way, God has used him as an author, evangelist, foreign missionary and preacher of the unsearchable riches of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The native of Flint, Michigan is a graduate of Bishop College, Union Theological Seminary, and earned his doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary.
He and his wife Rev. Shanda have been blessed with two daughters who are both in grade school. He is the proud father of three college graduates and two grandchildren.
